Shoulder injuries

Shoulder injuries we treat

  • Rotator cuff injuries and tendinopathy
  • Shoulder impingement syndrome
  • AC joint sprains
  • Shoulder dislocations and instability
  • Impact and collision injuries from contact sport
  • Rehabilitation after shoulder surgery
  • Shoulder pain referred from the neck

The shoulder has a wide range of movement, which makes it both capable and vulnerable. Pain can come from the tendons, the joint itself or the way the shoulder moves under load. Working out the source is the starting point for any effective plan.

How we work

How we assess and treat a shoulder injury

  1. 01

Thorough initial assessment. Injury history, movement analysis and biomechanical screening to identify the root cause, not just the symptoms.

  2. 02

A personalised plan. No generic programs. Your plan is built around your injury, sport and goals.

  3. 03

Hands-on treatment where it helps. Soft tissue release, joint mobilisation and sport-specific techniques.

  4. 04

Progressive, evidence-based rehabilitation. Exercise that rebuilds strength, stability and sport-specific movement patterns.

  5. 05

Objective return-to-sport testing. We use VALD technology so you and your physio know where you stand at each milestone.

Your physio will set out your milestones at your first consultation, and objective testing guides each step.

Common questions

Shoulder FAQs

Book an Appointment
Do I need a referral to see a shoulder physio?

No. You can book directly. A GP referral is only needed to see our orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Rohan Price. Dr Zach Baker is a GP, so you can book with him directly.

Should I see a physio or a surgeon first?

You can start with a physiotherapy assessment, no referral needed. If your physio thinks a medical or surgical opinion would help, they can bring in Dr Zach Baker, our sports GP, who can also refer you to Mr Rohan Price if a surgical opinion is needed. If your shoulder has dislocated and not gone back in, or you have severe pain, numbness or obvious deformity after a fall or collision, go to an emergency department first.

How long is a consultation?

Initial consultations are 30 to 60 minutes, including assessment, diagnosis and initial treatment. Follow-ups are generally 30 to 45 minutes.

How long does shoulder rehab take?

It depends on the injury. A minor strain may settle within a few weeks, while rehab after a dislocation or surgery can take several months. Your physio will give you an expected timeframe at your first assessment and update it as testing shows your progress.

Do you see WorkCover, TAC or DVA patients?

Yes. You pay the full fee at the appointment and claim back from WorkCover, TAC or DVA. As a private clinic, there may be a gap.

What should I bring?

Any X-rays, MRI or ultrasound reports, and clothing that allows access to your shoulder.
