Who is the right physiotherapist for my needs?
Our team of AHPRA-registered sports physiotherapists at Performe are experienced across a full range of sporting injuries and athletic rehabilitation. Browse their profiles online or call our friendly staff and we'll match you with the right practitioner for your condition and goals.
How do I get physiotherapy help?
No referral is required to see a sports physiotherapist at Performe. Simply book online through our booking platform or call our Melbourne clinic directly. You can book same-week appointments online 24/7.
How long is each physio session?
Initial consultations at Performe range from 30–60 minutes and include a full assessment, diagnosis and initial treatment. Follow-up sessions are generally 30–45 minutes. Your physiotherapist will advise the recommended session frequency based on your injury.
What is the cost of each appointment? What do I need to bring?
Current appointment fees are listed on our booking platform. We accept all major private health insurance funds with on-the-spot HICAPS claiming. Please bring any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI reports) and wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the injured area.
Do I need a referral to access this support?
No referral is required for standard private health or self-funded appointments. A GP referral (EPC plan) may allow Medicare rebates on a limited number of sessions. Contact us if you'd like guidance on your specific situation.
What's the difference between a sports physio and a regular physio?
Sports physiotherapists have specialist training in sports injuries, athletic performance and return-to-sport protocols. While a general physiotherapist treats a broad range of conditions, a sports physio brings deeper expertise in how injuries occur in sport and how to optimise recovery in an athletic context — including sport-specific rehabilitation and performance goals.
Can sports physiotherapy help with injury prevention, not just treatment?
Absolutely. Injury prevention is a core part of our sports physiotherapy approach. We offer biomechanical screening, movement assessments and sport-specific conditioning programs to identify risk factors before injuries occur — especially valuable for athletes returning from a break or preparing for a new season.
Can I claim sports physiotherapy on private health insurance?
Yes. Physiotherapy is covered under Extras with most Australian private health funds, subject to your annual limits. We have HICAPS available so you can claim on the spot at our Melbourne clinic. Contact your health fund to confirm your physiotherapy benefit before your first appointment.
